Misr
University for Science & Technology, MUST, was established
in 1996, laying the foundation of what was to become a large,
independent university. The university offers its students
education of high quality and an opportunity to develop their
individual intellectual abilities and skills.
The
College of Business and Economics, provides an environment
in which each student counts and in which college members
know students by name. The close attention paid to each individual
student is indeed a distinctive feature of the college. |
The
philosophy of the college is based on the convection that
intellectual and social interaction between students and
their teachers is the very essence of education, and can never
be replaced by even the best technical equipment. It is from
this personal relationship that students receive inspiration
and gain self-confidence as their educational progress is
noted and encouraged. The real assets of the college are the
students and their dedication to serious study and the excellence
of its teaching staff. The college members are carefully selected,
not only for the quality of their educational background, but
also for their practical expertise.
Since
its founding, the college has dedicated itself to the encouragement
and active development of international understanding. The
college study programmes are designed with a distinct international
focus. These facts are noted from the courses taught. The
college curricula include international accounting system,
international trade, and international economic impacts. The
college students who are presently enrolled come from different
countries—a fact which provides an invaluable opportunity to study together and share experiences with students
from many different nationalities and cultural backgrounds
and forming, in addition, lifelong relationships.
Personal
initiative is encouraged. The college prepares students thoroughly
for professional careers and professionalism as well as the
development of the studenty’s character. The undergraduate
programmes are also devoted to the development of the student’s
ability to think creatively, and to communicate effectively.
To
reach this end, small classes are formed, allowing maximum
attention to the individual student. Helpful staff provides
assistance with practical matters, such as course selection
and career opportunities through the semester. A variety of
social events are planned; visits to places of industrial,
commercial, cultural and governmental importance are organized.
These events and activities give students a better understanding
of the curriculum studied.
The
Educational System
The
College of Business and Economics applies the “credit
hours system”.
The
academic year consists of two 16–week semesters and an eight-week
summer session. Full-time students may enroll in seven courses
during a full semester, and up to three courses in the summer
session.
The
college is known for its flexibility. It provides a broader
and more varied education than other institutions in Egypt
by giving its students three categories of courses:
(a) general courses designed to fulfil the general academic
required courses within their chosen field.
(b) specialized courses in different areas of specialization,
and
(c) electives, from which students can choose from any discipline
of their interest.
The
college also provides a system whereby students are continuously
assessed from the beginning of the semester at regular intervals,
in terms of class work and examinations.
The
instructors, who know each student’s strength and weakness,
assess the student's performance periodically. Thus, students
are always informed of their own progress. Classroom experience,
academic research, and independent studies are augmented by
college members who have a wealth of practical experience.
On campus, the student may participate in an electronic commerce
research centre.
The
system measures this progress in terms of credit hours. The
student must earn (165-168 credit hours) to be awared the bachelor’s degree.
Increasingly,
however, students attend summer sessions as well, in order
to complete their studies as quickly as possible.
The Library
The
library resources play an important role at the University.
The central library contains textbooks, newspapers, periodicals
and general reference works related to the programmes of study
offered.
The
library is equipped with CD-ROMs and state-of-the-art software
for research and study. Professional librarians help students
use the library and it’s varied technical and adjunct
computer resources for research and other assigned projects.
