Misr University for Science and Technology celebrated “the International Day of the Arabic Language” on December 21st, 2021. It was prepared and organized by Prof. Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation; Prof. Anas Attia Al-Fiqi, Director of the Center for Realization of Arab Heritage, who presented the event, supervised the preparation for it and invited the honorees; and Prof. Hisham Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Communication Technology.
The celebration began with verses from the Holy Q’uran, recited by the student Aya Al-Hadi from the Arabic Department, then the speech of Prof. Muhammad Omar, University President, who reviewed the verses of the Qur’an that talks about Arabic and the status of the Arabic language, then came the speech of Prof. Sherif Refaat, Vice President for Community Service Affairs and Environmental Development, Prof. Ahmed Omar Hashem, member of the Council of Senior Scholars; Prof. Abdel Hamid Madkour, Secretary of the Academy of the Arabic Language in Cairo, and Prof. Ahmed Fouad Pasha, the well-known scholar at the Academy of the Arabic Language.
In his speech, Prof. Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation emphasized the importance allocated to the Arabic language by the university, through teaching Arabic courses to all university faculties with its various specializations, as well as the Arabic language subjects taught as faculty requirements in the faculty itself. He also mentioned that the faculty is in the process of establishing a center for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers to preserve our native tongue.
Prof. Hisham Attia, Dean of the College of Mass Communication, spoke about the importance of the Arabic language and its great role in the field of media.
The ceremony included interludes of Arabic music, Arabic singing and religious chanting performed by Prof. Ahmed Adel Abdel Mawla, Vice Dean of the College of Languages and Translation for Community Service and Environmental Development Affairs, and a section for student talents from poetic recitation by students: Habiba Mahmoud, Ahmed Rabie Nadi from the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation, and Hisham Al-Saeedi from the College of Dentistry.
The university has honored a number of the most prominent contemporary scholars who have served the Arabic language as the language of the Noble Qur’an: Prof. Ahmed Omar Hashem; Prof.
Abdel Hamid Madkour, Prof. Ahmed Fouad Pasha; Prof. Reda Abdel Salam; Prof. Hassan Madani; Prof. Dr. Saeed Al Wakeel and Prof. Ahmed Taher; Prof Kamal Arafat Nabhan; Prof. Amer Al-Najjar; Prof. Fawzi Jaballah; Prof. Khaled Fahmy; Prof. Mohamed Abdel Muttalib; Prof. Ibrahim Awad; Prof. Adel Maher, Prof. Saleh Fares; and Rania Lashin.
The celebration was attended by the honored University deans, faculty members, and a large number of students.
