Policy of non-discrimination against women
Egypt Vision 2030, the country’s national sustainable development program, aims to achieve equitable opportunities, gender equality, and non-discrimination against men and women in all economic, social, and political arenas.
The United Nations’ fifth Sustainable Development Goal is to achieve gender equality. As a result, Misr University for Science and Technology established the Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit to enhance the university’s role in raising youth awareness about the importance of equal opportunity while also reinforcing the values of co-equality and non-discrimination among various segments of society.
Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) has a formal Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) policy, as well as Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment rules that ban discrimination on a wide range of grounds. The institution has established an Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit to oversee these policies and address any resulting complaints.
The Egyptian Constitution ensures that men and women are treated equally in all civil, political, economic, social, and cultural rights guaranteed by its provisions. The authorities make every effort to ensure that women receive adequate representation in representative councils in conformity with the legislation. Furthermore, women are entitled to assume public and top managerial positions in the state, as well as appointments to judicial bodies and bodies, without prejudice. The state promises to protect women from all sorts of assault and to help them balance family duties and work commitments. It also promises to support and protect mothers, children, breadwinners, the elderly, and the most vulnerable women.
Egypt’s National Council for Women (NCW) advocates for women’s rights through public policy lobbying, national program implementation, and review of the state’s women’s empowerment programs. The council also conducts research and recommends legislative changes to eliminate gender discrimination, organizes public awareness campaigns, represents women in international forums, and investigates complaints about violations of women’s rights. It was created in 2000 to promote gender equality and female participation in development.
