Seminar on Languages in the Field of Tourism Highlights the Role of Language and Translation Graduates in Supporting the Tourism Sector

Under the generous patronage of Mr. Khaled El-Toukhy, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Prof. Hala El-Menoufi, President of the University, and Prof. Emad Khalil, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development,

and under the supervision of Prof. Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, and Prof. Omima El-Shal, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourist Guidance,

and in cooperation with Nefert Training Company,

the Faculty of Languages and Translation, in collaboration with the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourist Guidance, organized a seminar entitled “Languages in the Field of Tourism” on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at the University Conference Hall.

▪️The seminar was presented by Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Wahab, Executive Director of Nefert Company.

Coordination and presentation of the seminar were carried out by Prof. Ahmed Adel Abdel-Mawla, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation for Community Service and Environmental Development.

The event was attended by Prof. Adel Saleh, Vice Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Head of the German Department, along with a number of vice deans from various faculties, faculty members, and teaching assistants.

Prof. Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Languages and Translation, opened the seminar by welcoming the guests and discussing the importance of the role of language graduates in the tourism field. He elaborated on the responsibilities and required skills of several key tourism professionals:

          •        Transferman: definition, duties, and essential skills for dealing with foreign groups at airports and during hotel check-ins.

          •        Tour Leader: definition, job nature, leadership skills for managing tourist groups, implementation of tour programs, and communication with different nationalities.

          •        Tour Guide: main responsibilities and accountability toward tourists.

He also spoke about tourism marketing, emphasizing that each of these areas has specialized training programs offered by the faculty as part of its field training requirement, which is mandatory for graduation.

Prof. Omima El-Shal, Dean of the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourist Guidance, highlighted the importance of obtaining the necessary licenses to work in the tourism sector. She explained that language graduates can pursue postgraduate diplomas qualifying them for work as tourist guides and announced that the Faculty of Archaeology and Tourist Guidance is preparing to launch professional programs in tourist guiding for language students.

Later, Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Wahab from Nefert Company delivered an engaging lecture that captivated the large audience of students filling the hall. Through a PowerPoint presentation, he reinforced the points made by Prof. Hussein Ibrahim and discussed key tour guiding skills, including:

          •        Linguistic and cultural skills

          •        Communication and persuasion skills

          •        Time and group management The seminar concluded with a Q&A session with the students, followed by a group of commemorative photographs.
