As part of the College of Medicine’s community services and environmental affairs sector agenda for the academic year 2023-2024. The college celebrated the International Day for Women and Girls in Science on February 11th, 2024, which has been celebrated annually worldwide since it was set by the United Nations Assembly in 2015. It has also been aiming at commemorating women’s history in the fields of science and discussing methods for continued improvement of gender equality within scientific fields
Honorable guests of the celebration were:
- Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment
- Dr. Nevine El-Kabbaj, Minister of Social Solidarity; attended on her behalf, Dr. Mona Hassan Amin
- Dr. Nadia Zakhary, former Minister of Scientific Research and Member of the National Council for Women 4.
- Dr. Hala Salah, former Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University 5.
- Dr. Maya Morsy, President of the National Council for Women; attended on her behalf, Dr. Nesrin El-Baghdady 6.
- Dr. Naeema El-Gasseer, former “WHO” Representative in Cairo
With the presence of esteemed guests from college deans, vice deans, faculty staff, and university students:
The celebration started with Mr. Khaled El-Toukhy presenting Dr. Yasmine Fouad with the University Award, honoring her journey within the fields of science and her accomplishments with Egyptian environmental files as well.
The event had each of the honorable guests share a talk with the audience, going over their unique journeys, their views on supporting women’s role in different scientific fields through their personal and professional experiences, and the challenges they have encountered.
· Prof. Nehad El-Mahboub moderated an open discussion between the honorable panel of guests and the attendees, sharing experiences and points of view.
With the closing ceremony, Prof. Nehad El-Mahboub presented the honorable guests with the University Award in recognition of their valued achievements, each in their respective fields.
