About Unit

One of the goals of national sustainable development strategy, Egypt vision 2030 is equal opportunities, gender equality and non-discrimination between men and women in all economic, social, and political fields. Furthermore, the 5th goal of the of sustainable development goals, adopted by the United Nations, is concerned with gender equality. So the Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit was established at Misr University for Science and Technology to solidify the role of the university in spreading awareness amongst the youth about the importance of equal opportunity and to solidify the co-equality and non-discrimination values between the different segments of the society.

Vision

Ensuring equal opportunities and equality among all segments of the university community.

Mission

The unit seeks to achieve one of the sustainable development goals, which is gender equality and equal opportunities in all activities of different fields accomplished by the continuous awareness of the importance of the role of women in society and developing their abilities and self-realization in addition to integrating the special needs into the university community by studying, working, and performing activities at the university.

 

Strategic goals

Raising awareness to the role of the Egyptian government in developing the essential role of Egyptian women in accordance with the national sustainable development strategy, Egypt vision 2030.
Promoting the 5th goal of the sustainable development goals, adopted by the United Nations, that confirms for gender equality.
Activating of the idea of gender equality into reality.
Raising awareness of Women’s rights and the protection of Women against violence as guaranteed by the Egyptian Constitution.
Raising awareness of protecting women against violence and harassment and the means of protection, in accordance with the United Nations declaration.
Setting directions towards increasing the awareness of Sexual education and addressing the issue of early childhood marriage and female genital mutilation.
Raising awareness about the roles of the future mothers and successful working women.
Providing examples for the efforts of the Egyptian government in enhancing the role of women by nominating women in leadership roles.
Conducting awareness campaigns through the unit outside the scope of the university and involving students in those campaigns.
Confirming the maximum use of the university facilities, taking into consideration the facilities for the special needs.
Promoting entrepreneurship for the university community by developing the skills of entrepreneurship.
Receiving and discussing complaints regarding violations towards equal opportunity and gender equality with full confidentiality and working to find solutions with all parties in the university.

Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Policy

The upper hierarchy is responsible for the protected characteristics listed below:

Age:

Misr University for Science and Technology is devoted to providing chances to all employees and students, regardless of age, who come to the University. Except where genuinely warranted, age will not be a barrier to attaining work rights and benefits or enrolling in courses.

Disability:

Misr University for Science and Technology is devoted to disability equality and ensuring that all staff, students, and visitors have a positive experience of work, learning, teaching, and research environment.

Race:

The university is totally committed to fostering racial equality and creating a racial-free work, learning, research, and teaching environment. We recognize that education is vital for equality and that we can play a critical role in ensuring that Egypt is free of racial discrimination.

 Gender:

Misr University for Science and Technology is dedicated to gender equality and attempts to eliminate sex discrimination in its workplace, learning, teaching, and research environments.  Sex equality refers to equal and fair treatment of men and women.

To achieve this goal, the University President established the Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit that has a committee to achieve sex equality in the university.

 Religion:

Misr University for Science and Technology supports and embraces the variety of its staff, students, and visitors, and strives to provide an environment in which cultural and religious views are respected.

Anti-Bribery and Corruption Policy

The university policy is that all staff and students do business honestly and without the use of corrupt practices or acts of bribery to gain an unfair advantage.

What are Bribery and Corruption?

Bribery:

Bribery is defined as the offering, promising, demanding, or accepting of a benefit as a tempt for an illegal, unethical, breach of trust, or inappropriate fulfilment of a contract.

Corruption:

Corruption is defined as the use of public position or power for personal benefit, or the use of private power in relation to business outside of government.

Procedure:

A complaint is submitted to the Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit via the unit office or via e-mail to the unit within the institution.

– A meeting of the unit committee is conducted to discuss and investigate complaints.

– The complaint will be directed to the university competent authorities.

In the case of staff, the complaint shall be directed to the Secretary-General of the university on the recommendation of the unit committee to make the appropriate decision and direct it to the competent department.

In the case of university students and faculty members, the complaint shall be directed to the university on the recommendation of the unit committee to make the appropriate decision and direct the complaint to the competent department such as legal affairs or the University Supreme Disciplinary Board.

– Follow-up the findings and investigations related to complaints brought to the Unit.

Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment policies

Misr University for Science and Technology is dedicated to promote an atmosphere where its faculty, students, administrators, and staff members can feel safe, relying on others to be trustworthy, and show respect to one another as fellow human beings. In fact, respect one another among instructors, students, staff, and administrators is a crucial component of the educational process, and it must be preserved at all costs.

This policy outlines the university procedures for handling complaints of discrimination and harassment against faculty, students, administrators, and staff that are based on a protected feature as defined in this policy.

Procedure:

A complaint is submitted to the Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit via the unit office or via e-mail to the unit within the institution.

– A meeting of the unit committee is conducted to discuss and investigate complaints.

Confidentiality:

The university will make every effort to ensure confidentiality to the greatest extent possible, in accordance with the relevant regulations and the requirement to handle issues effectively and fairly to protect the university community. All parties participating in the proceedings will be aware of the importance of discretion and confidentiality.

Complaints procedure

– The unit complaints procedure demonstrates our dedication to value complaints. It aims to address complaints as close to the point of service delivery as feasible, and to undertake full, unbiased, and fair investigations of complaints so that, where appropriate, we can make decisions based on the evidences facts of the case.

  •  Ethical Compliance

The Equal Opportunities Unit complies with all regulations and ethical laws of Misr University of Science and Technology and brings together its students, teaching staff and staff.

Procedures:

Report any inappropriate behavior. If you suspect that a behavior is illegal, unethical, or otherwise disturbing, you should notify your supervisor. If your supervisor is involved in questionable behavior, you should discuss it with the higher level of authority. You may also report the behavior to the university Equal Opportunities and Gender Equality Unit through e-mail at: eoge@must.edu.eg or through the unit office.

Executive roles of the Gender Equality and Equal Opportunities Unit

Determining the general policy of the unit in accordance with the vision of the Egyptian government 2030.
Developing an annual executive work plan for the unit.
Encouraging and conducting external agreements that supports the unit’s mission.
Participating in most of the activities of the Egyptian government concerning gender equality and equal opportunities.
Following-up the policy of non-discrimination against women and special needs in the university.
