Language and Climate: Environmental and Translation Nuances

On a joyful day, the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation hosted the distinguished scholar and translator Prof. Mustafa Riad, Professor of Literature and Translation Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University, to give a seminar entitled, “Language and Climate: Environmental and Translation Nuances”. He was gratefully received by Prof.  Ashraf Haidar, President of the University, Prof. Sherif Refaat, Vice President of the University, Prof.  Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Translation, Prof. Ahmed Adel, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Prof.  Fatma El-Diwany, Head of the Department of English Language and Translation.

The seminar commenced with an introductory speech from Prof. Ashraf Haidar, President of the University, highlighting the growing importance of climate changes and their impact on all social, cultural, and literary studies. Prof. Sherif Refaat, then, congratulated the guest and Prof. Fatma El-Diwany on behalf of the Department of English for hosting this remarkable event.

This was followed by a welcome note presented by Prof. Hussein Ibrahim, Dean of the Faculty, who underlined the significant and inevitable connection between climate changes and the studies of languages and translation.

Prof. Fatma El-Diwany welcomed our honoured guest, Prof. Mustafa Riad, and presented a brief biography on his academic career and his valuable contributions in literary and translation research.

Then Prof. Mustafa Riad, reviewed the most prominent approaches and applications of translation in relation to climate changes. This seminar was attended by the faculty members, teaching assistants and students, who were highly engaged and interactive.

The seminar was presented by Prof. Dr. Ahmed Adel, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, who recited some poetic verses in celebration of this great academic event. Having ended the seminar, our guest was taken in a tour in the university Central Library, accompanied by Dr. Nada Labib, Director of the Library, to explore the various opportunities offered to our students.
